Alternative repair methods
It is a priority for us and our bodywork partners to combine high-quality workmanship with a responsible and careful use of our scarce resources.
Alternative repair methods, such as the ‘Micro Repair’ paint process, dent removal techniques, or wheel repairs using state-of-the-art CNC lathes, help to significantly reduce both costs and CO2 emissions.
Our claims experts review every single damage estimate for such alternatives and, before approving the repair, request the most suitable repair method from the repair workshop.
The Allianz Centre for Technology (AZT), in collaboration with the “Karlsruhe Institute of Technology” (KIT), has assessed the environmental benefits of typical car repairs.
"Repairing a side panel can reduce CO2 emissions by 60 per cent, whilst repairing a plastic bumper can reduce them by 72 per cent – in each case compared to replacing the parts.
For minor repairs to a wing, CO2 emissions are 44 per cent lower than when the wing is completely repainted." (Allianz calls for green repairs, Munich 9/2009)
